Welcome to the Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Shakespeare Festival mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis First held in 2001, the St Louis Shakespeare Festival annually presents a Shakespeare classic in the beautiful outdoor setting of Forest Park. The festival is staged in a natural amphitheater on the east side of Art Hill, which accommodates around 2000 audience members. Theatergoers should bring blankets to sit on, but for those who prefer a more upright position, there are some chairs to rent on a first-come first-served basis.
The festivities begin every night with a "green show," where music, comedy and magic or juggling are performed. Also included in this is a simplified version of the play, explaining the plot. For those interested, there are pre-show lectures, elucidating aspects of the play or explaining Elizabethan history. Food is on sale, or you can bring your own picnic.…...more!
